Hot Tub Comparisons
When you decide to buy a portable hot tub, you usually have certain criteria that you need to check off so that you can find the best portable hot tub for you. Both of these hot tubs are bestsellers and they are both very similar but we will go through the criteria we believe you will check to enlighten you the best we can.
#1. Price
Our first criteria when choosing anything is usually the price, in this current climate we have to get the best price to make our money go as far as it can. In terms of our hot tub comparisons the price for the Lay Z Spa is less than the Purespa at the current moment, so the Lay Z Spa is offering better value but this can be subject to change as there are often special offers and to be honest there isn’t much in it and both are under $400.
#2. Size of tub, jets and heating capacity
Both of these hot tubs are the same size which is 77 inches diameter inflated, with a height of 28 inches and they both have 120 bubble jets, which give you the relaxing bubble massage. Most hot tubs can raise the temperature of the water to 104 degrees Fahrenheit and these 2 tubs are no different.
#3. Construction and filtration
The Coleman Lay Z Spa Inflatable Hot Tub is well constructed using Tri tech 3 ply reinforced material and the walls are made using I-Beam construction which means once it is inflated it is strong enough that you can sit on the side without it collapsing. There is also a cushion pad floor mat that goes under the spa to help insulate and keep the heat of the water in the pool and to protect the surface of the tub from puncture. It also gives added comfort when sitting in the spa.
The Intex 77-Inches PureSpa Portable Bubble Massage Spa Set is made from Fibre-Tech construction which enhances the durability of the interior with high strength fibres. It’s also made of 3 ply laminated material. There is also a bubble ground mat to put under the hot tub for comfort, insulation and protection.
Although the name of the construction method is different it’s obvious that they both do the same job of reinforcing the inflated tub to make it as puncture free, solid and comfortable as possible.
Both of these hot tubs have a built in filtration system with the initial filters included. There are spare filter packs available at Amazon.com and they can be cleaned and rotated to get the most out of them.
The only difference we have found is in the Intex hot tub which also include a water softening system which passes the water through an electro magnetic coil which crystalises the minerals in the water and catches them in the filter. This stops the water furring up the heating elements in the hot tub heater to keep it working efficiently.
#4 Heaters
Both hot tubs have a heater attachment which can be used as a pump to inflate your tub and cover and then is attached to heat the water and filter it and to use the bubble jets. The control on the Intex allows you to leave the heater on when you use the bubbles but it will still get cooler over time as you’re sitting in it as the cover will be off. You can set the temperature to suit what you prefer up to 104 degrees, it is easily adjustable.
The Coleman has a control unit that will turn off the heater when the bubble jets are turned on. You can set the temperature to the level you want easily, what this unit also has is a 72 hour safety cut off which has to be over ridden by pressing a button, some buyers find annoying if they forget about it as it stops automatically heating your tub, this is not usually a problem if you are using your hot tub regularly but you might have to set a phone alert or some other alarm to remind you if you only use it at weekends.
#5 Covers and accessories
Both of these hot tubs have an inflatable cover which fastens onto the tub to keep the heat in and the outside dirt, like leaves and bugs etc. out. The covers are a necessary item when heating the water in your tub. Both tubs come with a chemical floater that you can use for chlorine tablets, you will need to follow water maintenance to make sure you keep the water fresh and free from microorganisms.
The Intex hot tub comes with a storage bag for storing your deflated tub over the winter period.
Summary
There are only a few differences between these 2 hot tubs, probably the main difference being in the heating control panel, on the Intex you can leave the heater on with the bubble feature and it has the water softening feature, it also includes a storage bag.
The control panel on the Coleman has the 72 hour safety cut off and the heater goes off automatically when the bubbles go on.
In terms of the Coleman Lay z Spa vs Intex Purespa, the Coleman is a little cheaper but you have to decide whether the extras offered on the Intex are worth the little extra money it costs.
Verdict
Although both of these hot tubs are on the bestseller list on Amazon.com the Coleman has a better star rating than the Intex
and with it being cheaper as well we feel it is a good choice to make although you won’t be disappointed with either of them.
